CEDARWOOD ATLAS AND/OR VIRGINIA (U.S.A.) (CEDRUS ATLANTICA MANETTI-PINACEAE)
Obtained by steam distillation from the wood that grows in North America. A pleasant mild, balsamic-woody odor, it is yellowish in color and one of the oldest oils to be produced. It was used by ancient Egyptians when embalming the dead and also used to treat oily skin, oily hair, dandruff and also for mucous coughs and colds.
PRINCIPAL CONSTITUENTS: Terpenic hydrocarbons, cedrol and sesquiterpenes (cardinene).
PERFUME NOTE: Base
ANECDOTAL INFORMATION: The Atlas is a great oil to use for smell recognition and for its relaxing qualities. It is time tested and anti- putrid, making this oil effective for skin care oil. Use for acne, oily skin or blend with Ti-Tree, ten drops to an ounce of shampoo for dandruff, seborrhea of the scalp. Cedarwood is time tested, for its use as a natural insect repellant especially for moths and termites, blend with citronella to repel roaches. The Cedarwood Virginia is a good choice for a "base note" since it is lighter in fragrance than the Atlas and it is less likely to change the aroma of a synergy or perfume.
