For the past twenty-five years A-CAM has been involved in the research and practice of "Aromas, Therapies, and Human Health" at every level of the healthcare community. Our educational programs are centered on the therapeutic uses of medicinal plant materials: essential oils and related herbs. Information presented is based on scientific data, historical uses, anecdotal information, and common sense.
Our focus is geared towards offering the best non-toxic and natural approach to healthcare. An A-CAM Practitioner is trained to begin an assessment by taking blood pressure and pulse pressure readings, followed by documenting the client's medical history and usage of medication and known side effects. Next an environmental assessment is taken where potentially hazardous chemicals used in the home and workplace are documented: use of pesticides, bleach, pvc, lead paint, etc.
Finally, the A-CAM Practitioner offers custom blending of medicinal grade essential oils for specific conditions or ailments. Here the practitioner will also review products in which the benefit no longer outweighs the risks.
A-CAM has been providing Aroma Therapy Courses to evey level of the healthcare community throughout the United States and the Caribbean. A-CAM courses have been taught for the past fifteen (15) years at Miami-Dade Community College, Florida International University, and A-CAM Educational Centers.

In America and Great Britain, most people have the mistaken idea that essential oils are only useful as food flavorings and nice smells. British "aromatherapy" preaches that essential oils must not be touched unless heavily diluted, that they must not be inhaled directly from the container, and that internal use is prohibited, even when larger quantities of the same oil are used as legal food additives!
This approach flies in the face of both science and historical uses of essential oils. Numerous scholarly works and research studies have shown a much deeper understanding of the many powers of essential oils for healing. While recent U.S. and British medical studies have shown that British-style "aromatherapy" has no clinically measurable effect, studies by the German Commission E show that the traditional German and French usages are quite effective. Some oils are used topically without dilution, some oils are prescribed by doctors for internal use, others in inhaled in concentration directly act on the limbic, endocrine, and circulatory systems, and still others are used as powerful antiseptic aerosols.
